What Makes a Quality Graphic?
Raster images don't usually make good graphics for printing or embroidering on to garments. Raster images are made of pixels like you would find in a .jpeg image or similar. These pixels don't allow your design to maintain clean and crisp defined edges as they are scaled from a size that fits your phone or computer screen to a size that is appropriate for your apparel of choice.
Alternately, vector based images are defined by shapes and splines that maintain crisp definition at any scaled size. There are various file formats that will contain vector graphics such as .ai or .svg files. These type of files make it easy to get you a high quality graphic quickly and efficiently.

How Many Colors?
Another issue with raster images like .jpeg is that they can contain thousands of shades of color. This is an issue for our processes because we use distinct individual colors in screen printing and embroidery.
Care has to be taken when making vector graphics to try to limit the number of distinct colors to no more than 4 or 5. However, it is much easier to accomplish this with vector graphics, as an entire shape or path can be assigned a single color.
